SFBJA sponsors journalism workshop for high school students
September 09, 2006

South Florida Black Journalists Association was a sponsor for this year's high school workshop for minority journalism students at the University of Miami. The workshop ran July 5-15 at UM's School of Communication. "The 18 participants, including six black students, delved into the historical, complicated and emotional debate of immigration reform and wrote a series of stories that educated us all," said Tsitsi D. Wakhisi, program director and SFBJA member.

SFBJA members Jacqueline Charles and April Robinson were associate directors of the workshop. Other SFBJA members assisted students with the workshop: Peter Bailey, William McGee, Jillian McKoy, Andrea Robinson, Terence Shepherd, Darran Simon, Nicole White and John Yearwood.

In early August I sent in my application for membership along with my dues, but I have not heard anything back yet. Is there a place on your site where I can check for new members?
