Rochelle Bridges Memorial Scholarship

The South Florida Black Journalists Association scholarship program was developed to encourage more high school students of African descent to become journalists.
Eligibility Requirements:
Please mail completed application and materials to:1. The candidate must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants should include a copy of an official transcript for the most recently completed semester or grading period.
2. The candidate must be of African descent - i.e., African American, Haitian, Caribbean.
3. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
4. Interested applicants should provide recommendation letters from three instructors/counselors or administrators that indicate the student is of outstanding moral character and in good standing within the school community. The letter also should point out examples of how the student has demonstrated an interest and talent in journalism.
5. An essay written by the applicant that answers the question: Why are journalists of color necessary in shaping the delivery of news and other information?
6. Two samples of work that show the applicant's talent: news stories written, pages designed, web sites created (send URL), broadcast tape. Photographers and graphic artists should submit a small portfolio of their work.
